It is not too often that Rafael Nadal loses – be it on a tennis court or in a game of poker or in an award ceremony, but two days ago he had no choice but to make way for two-time FIFA World Footballer of the year who received the Best International Athlete Award at the ESPYS held at the iconic Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
The Majorcan though had the consolation of beating his fierce on-court rivals Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in the Best Male Tennis Player Award category as he bagged it for his remarkable consistency in 2013 - a year in which he captured 10 titles including 2 Grand Slams and made his return back to No.1 for the third time in his career. He later tweeted: "Very happy for this award! Thanks to @ESPYS and to all of you for always supporting me."
